Imagine truly being seen and heard by your physician by
inserting your qualities of life into your prognosis.

Studies have shown that when both physician and patient
make shared-medical decisions, there is greater
post-treatment success.

“ Everybody Needs a Hippo “ focuses in a clear and humorous way the importance of factoring in quality of life considerations when making treatment path decisions. It was created and written by Adam Goodman and Nicolas Nastase. It is a little 36-page, adult fairytale and a Dr. Seuss/Disneyesque style that takes the reader through the “patient side” of the medical experience. The hippo can stand for a hippopotamus or the Hippocratic Oath. With comic relief, the reader learns how to obtain real answers to her/his unique medical condition, resulting in the ability to make truly informed medical decisions. It introduces the Quality of Life chart, providing an easy way for doctors and patients to collaborate, Jointly participating in the prognosis, and enables the doctor to respect the patient when prescribing a treatment plan.

It’s all about “Patient-Centered Medicine” and true "Informed Consent".

Listen to the talk Nastase gave to the Prostate Awareness Foundation,
about the medical events that led up to  Adam Goodman’s and his writing of
“Everybody Needs A Hippo”, and how simply trusting your doctor is not enough.

Supporting Champions is the medical division of Human Advocacy, Inc.
Human Advocacy, Inc. was created because of the many problems plaguing medicine.  For example, "Doctors must come out from behind our technologies and catheters. With medicine's heightened focus on technology, physicians have allowed our communication skills to atrophy. But doctors owe patients critical information in order for them to retain both the autonomy and the dignity they deserve." Wired Magazine, 4,18,2017.  For many more, push the Medical References button.

Qualities of life are the unique traits that make your life worth living.  Qualities can be  as simple as swallowing, smelling, feeling...to running 26 miles.  Each one of us is different and our medical providers would  far better serve us respecting
our QoL when prescribing a treatment plan.
